Resurrection: the hope that overcomes death
Christian hope in the face of death is in the resurrection promised by Christ, not in communication with the dead.
Death is one of life’s most painful experiences. The Bible does not treat this pain lightly. It calls death an enemy, but announces that Christ has conquered and will raise those who are His.
Christian hope is not in trying to speak with the dead or imagining an existence independent of the body. It is in the resurrection promised by God.
Death is sleep until the resurrection
The Bible frequently describes death as sleep. This image preserves two truths: death is real, but it is not final for those who are in Christ.
The dead are not guiding, observing, or advising the living. Secure hope is not in spiritual signs, but in the clear promise of Jesus.
Christ is the guarantee of future life
The resurrection of Jesus is the basis of Christian hope. Because He lives, death will not have the last word. God will restore life completely.
This hope comforts without denying grief. The Christian weeps, but not as one who has no promise.
