The gift of prophecy and the Bible as the final rule of faith
The prophetic gift should lead to the Word of God and never replace the authority of Scripture.
The Bible presents the gift of prophecy as a real work of the Holy Spirit. At the same time, it never authorizes any spiritual message to replace Scripture. The Word of God remains the final rule of faith and practice.
This distinction is important. The prophetic gift should call God’s people to faithfulness, correct, guide, and point to Christ. It does not create another gospel.
Every message must be tested
The Bible commands us to test the spirits and examine the teaching. Experience, emotion, and human authority are not enough. The decisive question is whether the message agrees with biblical revelation.
This protects the church against deception. It also prevents a cold skepticism that rejects every work of the Spirit without honest examination.
True prophecy exalts Christ
Genuine prophetic testimony does not steal the center from Christ. It calls to repentance, deepens trust in the Word, and strengthens mission.
When the gift is understood correctly, the Bible does not lose authority. On the contrary, it is read with greater seriousness.
