The heavenly sanctuary and Christ's present ministry
The Bible presents Christ as High Priest who intercedes, judges with justice, and applies the benefits of salvation.
Christ’s work did not end as a distant memory of the cross. The Bible presents the risen Jesus as our High Priest, ministering in favor of His people. This truth unites cross, intercession, judgment, and hope.
The sanctuary theme may seem difficult, but its center is simple: Christ continues acting to save, purify, and prepare His people.
Intercession does not diminish the cross
Christ’s intercession does not mean the cross was insufficient. On the contrary, it applies the benefits of the perfect work accomplished by Him. The living Savior presents His merits, not ours.
This gives security to the believer. Hope is not in human performance, but in Christ, who died, rose again, and intercedes.
Judgment also reveals hope
The idea of judgment can cause fear, but the Bible presents it also as God’s vindication and the defense of His people. Evil will not go unanswered. Grace does not ignore truth.
In Christ, judgment calls to spiritual seriousness and trust in the Savior.
