Growing in Christ is not winning alone
Spiritual growth happens through abiding in Christ, through the Word, through prayer, and through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Many people begin the Christian life by faith, but then try to continue only by the strength of discipline. The Bible presents another path: to grow in Christ is to abide in Him.
This does not make the Christian life passive. The Christian prays, studies the Bible, confesses sins, and chooses to obey. But all this happens in dependence on grace, not in self-sufficiency.
Abiding is deeper than trying
Jesus compared His followers to branches connected to the vine. The branch does not produce life by itself. It bears fruit because it remains united to the source.
This image corrects two errors: thinking God will do everything without our response, or imagining that we can overcome without communion with Christ. The Christian life is daily relationship.
Growth includes conflict and restoration
Growing does not mean never facing temptations again. It means learning to respond to God with more sincerity, depend on the Spirit, and rise by grace when there is a fall.
Maturity appears in humility, self-control, love, faithfulness, and a desire to serve. It is not religious theater. It is the fruit of Christ’s presence.
