God's law reveals love, not a way to buy salvation

God's law expresses His character and guides a life of love, but it does not replace the saving grace of Christ.

God’s law is often misunderstood. Some treat it as a means of buying divine acceptance. Others discard it as though grace made obedience irrelevant. The Bible rejects both extremes.

The law reveals God’s character and guides a life of love. But it does not save the sinner. Christ saves.

The law shows God’s will

The commandments are not arbitrary whims. They protect relationship with God and with neighbor. They point to true worship, faithfulness, honesty, purity, and respect for life.

When the law is seen as an expression of God’s love, it stops looking like a prison. It becomes light for the walk.

Grace changes the relationship with obedience

The sinner does not obey in order to be accepted; he obeys because he has been reached by grace. Faith in Christ does not destroy the law. It transforms the heart to love what God loves.

Obedience without Christ becomes legalism. Grace without transformation becomes a religious excuse. The gospel unites forgiveness and new life.
